Lawn Scarifying

Lawn scarifying is the process of removing organic matter from a lawn.

This is done using a powered machine with spinning vertical blades, called a Scarifier.

Why should I scarify my lawn?

Over a period of time, your lawn may suffer from an increased build-up of organic matter.

This adds to the thatch layer and can be caused by grass clippings, rotting stems and shoots, in fact any dead or decaying organic matter.

If this build up is allowed to continue without any removal program, such as scarification or verticutting, the thatch build up will become excessive and have an adverse effect on the health of the lawn.

These removal methods penetrate into this layer, and below the grass level where necessary.

They remove the organic matter that contributes to the thatch layer.

Shallow rooting, moss and dry patch are among the many side effects of a heavy thatch infested lawn.

Immediately after Lawn Scarification has been carried out is the ideal time to undertake Lawn Aeration, Lawn Top Dressing and Lawn Overseeding.

This is because the lawn scarification has created the perfect seed bed.
