Lawn Treatments in Summer
Our lawn treatments in summer will keep your lawn looking fresh and green throughout this period.
We all love long warm summers, but it can be hard to ensure your lawn doesn’t suffer from drought stress due to a lack of rain.
If we apply a third application of either organic granular or liquid fertiliser lawn weed and feed, we normally find this does the trick.
This, along with organic drought control products, provide your lawn with the nutrients required during the hotter summer months.
All of this helps your lawn absorb nutrients and water more efficiently.
Sometimes, it may even be wise to apply a further herbicide lawn treatment, to prevent the reappearance of particularly pernicious weeds.
Drought Control
You can tell if your lawn is suffering, its lush green appearance will have given way to a brownish tinge and the leaves will start to wilt.
If warm weather continues it may develop “Dry Patch”, a disease which turns the soil hydrophobic and makes it repel moisture.
There is a solution; your lawn can be treated with a water conserver treatment which is a sophisticated blend of wetting, spreading agents and longer-term wetting agents.
These surfactants utilise the available water more efficiently encouraging water penetration into areas previously affected by dryness and “Dry Patch”.
What you can do to help your lawn survive
Raise your cut height when you are mowing the lawn and you can even let clippings fall onto the lawn instead of collecting them.
This acts as a mulch and slows evaporation of water from the surface.
This can only be done if the clippings are very small, otherwise you are at risk of smothering the grass which can also cause harm.
Water (provided no hosepipe ban is in place) or use irrigation systems wisely.
Water once the soil is dry BUT before the grass browns. If the ground is baked and hard you can aerate or spike it before watering to help the water reach the grass roots.
Don’t overwater as this is wasteful and unnecessary and can result in the lawn becoming even less drought resistant.
Lawn aeration will greatly help, resulting in strong deeper roots, along with the application of the correct Wetting agents.
Patio and Driveway Cleaning
Of course, it’s not just in your lawn where weeds may start to bother you at this time of year.
Weed seeds can spread and start to grow in areas such as your gravel driveway, between patio paving slabs or among concrete paths.
That’s why we also offer a patio cleaning and driveway cleaning service, to control weeds in these areas as well.
Put in your diary to get in touch with us between June – August, to discuss your lawn requirements.
